My story

Hi there, I’m Joseph Mavericks! In August of 2019, I took one of the biggest decisions in my life: commit to blogging for at least 6 months, and see where it would take me. Up until then, I had only tried dozens of different things, without ever sticking with one. This time around, I decided to treat blogging like a job, to be extremely consistent, and to not drop it at the first obstacle on the road. I also made a conscious decision to put content first, not money.

After 6 months of commitment to blogging, I was having a blast and decided to keep going. I looked at my earnings and saw I had made a whopping $352, which I calculated amounted to an hourly rate of less than $2. But I didn’t care. This was more money than I had ever made blogging anyway, and I was conviced that if I kept putting passion and intention before dollars, this could turn into something bigger. I kept publishing 3 articles per week on average for a whole year.

Flash forward to 2022, 3 years after having started. My blog has now become a business that turns in thousands of dollars every month, and my recipe for online success has stayed the same: to create original content through passion and intention rather than a drive to make more income. This is what this course is about. It’s about turning your passion for writing into something you can make money from, without losing sight of why you started this in the first place. It’s about seeing money as a side effect of success, not its foundation.

What you will learn

Here is a sneak peek of all the topics we'll cover during the week of the course.

037-mission

Consistency and commitment: The 6 month rule

We start with theory. The 6-month rule is the foundation of my blogging success. It enabled me to start from scratch and never lose my momentum for 3 years after that

129-school

Choosing your writing niche

This is the first concrete step in creating your writing business: what do you want to write about? Here we go through exercises to help you find your preferred topic and how you can get the most out of it creatively.

106-bulb

Getting, storing and turning ideas into content

As a content creator, running out of ideas means running out of business. How to always find new stuff to write about? How to repurpose content effectively? How to use journaling to write down and organize ideas?

Developing a process around your writing

Setting up an efficient process and routine around your writing will help you scale up your blog much faster and deliver better content. We look at the tools, tips and tricks I use to inspire you to create your own system.

003-internet

Discovering and understanding medium

Medium is one of the best platforms to start on as a writer, because it has millions of readers, and it sends your content to the people most likely to be interested in it. We cover all the ins and outs of the tool to make sure you get the best out of it.

188-network

Building and managing your audience

As you establish yourself as a writer on medium, you'll want to convert your readers into fans: people who subscribe to your content through your own email content. This is key to diversifying your communication and income channels.

146-startup

Creating your own independent platform

Once you get readers to sign up to your own emails, you'll be able to direct some of them to your own independent platform: your website. This is a platform you 100% own, and you're the one who decides what to publish/sell/advertise on it.

170-technologyy

All the tools for a succesful blog

All along the course I recommend my favorite tools to get the job done, gathered from 3 years of experience writing online and interviewing 75 online writers on the topics of productivity and online content creation. You get discounts on many of the tools I recommend.

Steady wins the race

There has never been a better time to be a content creator, but it doesn't mean any of this is easy. This graph shows you how long it took me to build an audience on medium.com. Content creation is all about consistency, not a quick way to riches. That’s one the main reasons it’s important to start creating content because you love it, not because you want to make money from it.

All along the course, I talk about how I kept going when faced with setbacks, how to keep pushing even when it feels like you’re not making progress, and I also give you 1-on-1 advice that applies specifically to your case. You will want to quit, but if you keep at it you’ll succeed. How many people do you know who commited to doing something for just 6 months?

Roadmap & Curriculum

Module 1 Getting started

In this first module, we cover the core components of starting your writing business:

  • The 6-month rule
  • Choosing your writing niche
  • The tools you'll need
  • Understanding the online writing space

Module 3 The medium platform

In 2022, creating your own website from scratch and driving traffic to it is extremely difficult, especially when you don't have an audience to start with. That's why I chose to first publish my content on an existing platform, made specifically for writers, with millions of potential readers browsing through its content every month: medium.com

Medium is a great place to start as a writer because it will recommend your content specifically to readers that are most likely to be interested in it, through its algorithm.

  • The ins and outs of the platform
  • Best practices
  • Working with publications
  • Building an audience on medium

Module 2 Creating content

There are millions of content creators out there, and the competition is fierce. In this section, we talk about the different ways you can use to create authentic, unique and "clickable" content that will get people to not only notice your work, but also make them come back for more.

  • Journaling
  • Gathering ideas
  • Repurposing content
  • The writing process
  • Developing a style

  • The ins and outs of the platform
  • Best practices

Module 4 Your own platform, your own audience

As a content creator, the best way to make a living off your work is by owning the platform you use to publish it. As much a medium is great to start, we'll learn about its limitations and look at other channels you can create to be in total control of what you deliver to your audience. Primarily, your own website and email marketing.

  • How to build your own website
  • Why you don't need to be a tech guy to do it
  • Managing your email audience
  • Email marketing

The workbook

Once the course ends, you will receive an interactive PDF recap workbook with all the learnings from the course. It is split in the same number of sections, and is also filled with external links to the tools, websites and references I mentioned all along the week.

The workbook also contains 10 pages for you to fill out yourself, around the topics we cover mostly in the intro and outro of the course: what you writing niche will be, your commitment to trying to write for 6 months, your first content ideas...

The PDF is in A4 format so that you can print it as a booklet, but you can also read it on your iPad or e-reader if you want to be able to click all the links in it.

Live sessions with Joseph

Live sessions with Joseph

Most of the course is based on 5 live Zoom sessions designed to provide you with as much value as possible. All sessions are run by me, Joseph Mavericks, and I always try to connect to the audience as much as possible throughout each presentation.

There are 2 sessions designed specifically to feel more personal and open to discussion: on Tuesday, and on Thursday. Sessions on these days are split in groups of 20 to 25 people and occur at 4 different times, with the earliest time being 4pm UTC.

The last live session on Friday includes a 30-min to 1-hour Q&A session where I answer specific questions asked to me in the live chat.

Please note that depending on attendance, the number of groups and time slots may vary. That being said, you will never be notified less than 12 hours before a schedule change, UTC time.

So, is this course for you?

In order for you to get as much value as possible from my course, it’s important that you’re crystal clear on whether or not this a good fit for you. Here are 2 lists to help you make the right decision.

FAQ

You'll obviously get the most value from the course by attending the live sessions. There are also 4 different time slots available on Tuesday and Thursday, which should give you options to adjust your schedule. In any event, all Zoom sessions will be live recorded. A few days after the course ends (the week after), you'll get an email to download all the videos along with the course workbook.

Not necessarily. If you already have a platform you might find the begining od the last module a little less insightful, because that's where we talk about the basics of website building. But if you stick around, I'm sure you'll get a lot of value from it!

You don't need any. In fact, this course is mostly aimed at people who haven't taken the first step yet. You'll definitely learn more and faster if you already have some basic knowledge about blogging, especially when it comes to the technicalities around website and audience building. But again, the course is for all levels, so no worrries if you don't know much yet!

If you sign up and decide to cancel before the course starts, you can shoot me an email and I'll refund your order. However, no refunds will be made for people who start/attend the live course.

A laptop, a notepad and a pen. The interactive PDF workbook is sent to you at the end of the course, and you'll be able to either fill it out on your tablet/computer, or on paper by printing it out.

This course is for all levels, so it doesn't matter whether you already publish content or not. Maybe you've already spent time building an audience online, maybe you're alreayd making money from your work. In that case, you might find the first module a little less insightful, because that's where we talk about the basics of blogging, how to find your writing niche... But even if you already have a blog, I'm confident you'll still learn a lot at every step of this course. Plus, I always love to hear feedback from online writers that have a more critical outlook based on their own experience, so feel free to let me know!

The course lasts 5 days, from Monday to Friday. All scheduled time slots are provided in UTC+2.

Absolutely. You get a standard receipt via email right after your place an order, but if you need a complete business invoice, just shoot me an email and I'll send it to you!
